Mike Dowd, 63, of Tulsa, passed away at his home in Tulsa on Friday, July 17, 2010, following a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born in Walla Walla, WA on September 5, 1946, one of four children born to Roy Edward Dowd and Fairy Yvonne (McMichael) Dowd. Mike held a Master’s Degree in Education from Northeastern University. He taught in the Tulsa Public School System for many years prior to his retirement. Mike and Pam Milata were married in the Sharp Chapel of the University of Tulsa on December 26, 1969. Mike was a man of many talents and interests. He taught Physical Education and Health with a passion and especially enjoyed the time he spent coaching school teams and students in Baseball, Basketball, Soccer and Volleyball. Some of his more memorable times were at McKinley Elementary School. He was somewhat of a workaholic, and was skilled at carpentry and home improvement projects of all types. He also spent time volunteering for the Mental Health Association in Tulsa. He somehow found time for music which included playing the guitar, singing, and dancing. He is survived by his wife Pam, two sons, Dustin Michael Dowd and his wife Mercedes of Tulsa, and Brandon Miguel Dowd and his wife Leilei of Albuquerque, NM, and two grandchildren, Morgan Dowd and Emily Dowd. Also surviving are his parents, Roy and Fairy Dowd of Austin, TX , two sisters, Chrysta Stevens of Scottsdale, AZ and Rhonda Dooley of Boerne, TX, and a brother, Nathan Dowd of Austin, TX. Mike is also survived by other family members and a host of personal and professional friends. Mike’s memorial service will be held at All Souls Unitarian Church, 2952 S Peoria Ave,, Tulsa, Thursday, July 22, 11:00 a.m. Visitation is Tuesday, July 20 and Wednesday, July 21, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Mobley-Dodson Funeral Service, 211 E.Broadway, Sand Springs.
